Chester's Storyhouse in the Park: A Summer of Theatre and Fun (2026)

Get ready for a summer of storytelling and entertainment in Chester's Grosvenor Park, as the highly anticipated Storyhouse in the Park season unfolds! This year's lineup promises an exciting blend of classic tales, fresh interpretations, and a vibrant festival atmosphere.

A Season of Premieres and Classics

The season kicks off with two Grosvenor Park premieres, starting with “Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story”, a fun twist on the legendary British tale by Kieran Lynn. This feel-good production runs from July 3 to August 23, offering a unique take on a beloved classic. Simultaneously, “Let The Sun Shine!”, an uplifting drama by Helen Redcliffe, will be staged, bringing a ray of sunshine to audiences from July 10 to August 23. Both productions feature a talented cast, including David Ahmad, who takes on dual roles as King John and Arthur, and Annabelle Aquino as Marian/Cloud.

Family Fun with Peter Pan

For the little ones, the season includes a walkabout show, “Peter Pan”, running from July 28 to August 13. This interactive adventure promises to captivate children under eight and their families, with beloved characters like Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell, and Captain Hook. It’s a great opportunity for families to create lasting memories and immerse themselves in the magic of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale.

Award-Winning Nell Gwynn

The season also showcases Jessica Swale’s Olivier Award-winning play, “Nell Gwynn”, in a co-production with Shakespeare North Playhouse and Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake. The cast includes Rose Shalloo in the title role, alongside Adam Clifford and Celia Cruwys-Finnegan. Directed by Bryony Shanahan, this new staging promises to bring the story of the famous actress and mistress of Charles II to life, running from August 21 to September 6.

Festival Vibes and More

Beyond the performances, the Storyhouse in the Park festival site will buzz with activity. Visitors can look forward to the popular tepee bar, a variety of food choices, craft beers, and frozen cocktails. The festival kicks off with a Street Food Weekend on June 27 and 28, offering live music and free entry. Throughout the summer, there will be Moonlight Flicks, open-air cinema experiences, live comedy evenings, murder mystery events, and outdoor yoga sessions. Family-friendly activities include Rhyme Time and Library Craft sessions, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

A Season of Joy and Connection

Suzie Henderson, Storyhouse creative director, sums it up perfectly: “This year’s Park season brings together stories, characters, and music audiences already hold close to their hearts”. With a cast featuring exceptional talent from the National Theatre, the RSC, and leading producing theatres, alongside returning Grosvenor Park favourites, this season promises to be a celebration of joy, adventure, and connection.
